When I started writing Marty’s Minutes, I challenged my team to start writing their thoughts as well. And let me tell you, I have been blown away by what the team has come up with. Over the next few weeks, I want to share some of my favorite a-Minutes from the team. Starting with this one from our marketing intern this summer, Lauren O’Connell:
…
I was watching the TV show Grey’s Anatomy when I heard this quote from Christina Yang, “Sometimes the future changes quickly and completely, and we’re left with only the choice of what to do next. We can choose to be afraid of it, to stand there trembling, not moving, assuming the worst that can happen, or we step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant.” Although this is a fictional character and show, this quote really stood out to me.
Everyone comes across a time in their life where fear wants to take over. Something changes or happens, and fear is the first thing that comes to your mind. These situations are scary and while you can’t stop the fear from appearing, you can choose what you are going to do about it. You can change your method of thinking. It might be hard, but it is possible and worth it.
You have the choice to be afraid and avoid the situation or to stand tall and change your thoughts. Think about what can come from this that is brilliant. Stepping into the unknown obviously brings fear, but you can either choose the fear and regret it or move past it and hopefully have the experience of a lifetime. Change will occur many times in everyone’s life, but how you respond to that change can really impact the outcome it has on your life.
Sometimes the fictional quotes can have the most impact. Don’t let fear stop you from achieving greatness, “Step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant.”
Until next time…we are Advoco, make every minute count.
