Do you want to do something fun? Try giving a gift to a random person.
Yes, you read that right. Give a gift to a person who doesn’t expect it with no expectations of receiving anything in return. You will be amazed how good it feels and the effect it will have on you.
My guess is that the person on the other end of the gift will feel obligated to do something in return. It's called reciprocity, the need to return a favor.
Fight the urge to expect something in return. The feeling of satisfaction and joy you will get from giving without expectation will outweigh any material thing that person could give you in return.
As I have talked about in previous Marty's Minutes, we are continually challenged with how we perceive ourselves. When we give, and we give freely, we make the other person feel valued. In turn, we also feel valued. There's a shared gratitude. The words that will follow "I am" are “I am grateful.” And those are the best words you can say to yourself.
Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
