What Is The Only Thing You Can’t Buy?

Updated: Nov 9, 2022

I was reading an article about Warren Buffet and all the success he has had over his career.

There was one thing he said that jumped out at me: He said that the only thing he could not buy was time. Time was his most precious commodity.

He explained that the biggest challenge he has is people trying to take his time. He is constantly struggling against people trying to fill his calendar with meetings and events that do not allow him to do what he does best - read and think.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. How you use those hours will dictate how successful you will be. If you let people command your time and your calendar, then they will be in charge of your career and your success.

As the article went on, the interviewer looked at Warren Buffet’s calendar and what stood out was the amount of empty spaces. When asked about it, Buffet said that too many people judge their worth based on how full their diary is, but for him success was having more white space. Time for him to think, time for him to plan, and time for him to be successful.

Next time someone wants to steal your time by having a meaningless meeting, push back and save your time for what you really need to do.

Remember, the one thing we can’t buy in life is time.

Until next time…I’m Marty, make every minute count.
